A total of 235 haiku and 65 tanka were submitted by 96 authors for this selection. The deadline for entries was January 15, 2017. I anonymized these texts before the selection began. The jury consisted of Janette Bürkle, Gregor Graf and Simone K. Busch. The members of the selection group did not submit their own texts.
All selected texts - 31 haiku and 2 tanka - are published in alphabetical order of the author's names. Up to max. two haiku and two tanka per author added.
"A haiku / a tanka that appeals to me particularly" - this is the motto for each jury member to choose up to three texts (still anonymized), to present and comment here.

The next submission deadline for the Haiku / Tanka selection is April 15, 2017.

Each participant can submit up to five texts - three of which are haiku. With the submission, the author gives his consent for a possible publication http: /www.zugetextet.com/
Each member of the DHG has the opportunity to name a submission that should be published on their own member page if the jury does not consider it.
Only previously unpublished texts can be submitted (also applies to publications in blogs, forums and workshops etc.). No simultaneous submissions please!

A haiku that particularly appeals to me

The author sent out three lines. I caught it with pleasure. What was, how could the haiku cling to my skirt? Spring stretches and stretches. The sky is blue, the cherry trees are blooming, and I agree with Mörike:

Spring lets its blue ribbon
Flutter through the air again
Sweet, well-known fragrances
Streaking across the country
Violets are already dreaming
Want to come soon.
Listen, a soft harp sound from afar!
Spring, it's you!
I heard you!

And there is the car, an old Citroen 2CV, the duckling, “Swiss” we say. He was lovingly cared for in the coach house throughout the winter. But today he is taken out of the shed. In front of the house there are nine horsepower ready for the first exit, the roof is wide open. Father, mother and two children have taken a seat, the picnic basket has been stowed away and the journey begins on old country roads. Winter has left its mark, but our 2CV easily hops over indefinite clear spaces, just like old hands can do. Jacques Tati flickers across the screen: My Uncle - Monsieur Hulot's Holidays. Everything told? The story has only just begun.

In bulky waste

What a pity! The first “comforter”, the first “friend”, the first “take care of something”, simply disposed of in the bulky waste. It has become bulky, the first doll stands in your way into adulthood. Have friends or parents whispered: "Look, she's still playing with dolls? You're already too big for a doll! "
So did she have to go to bulky waste?
Is it a permanent let go of your own childhood?
And is it a detachment from old braids?
Clear the way for something new?
Quitting without notice is certainly due to a change of heart, but it does not have to mean: do not stop, do not remain unquestionably. But you can run, move, walk mentally to find a new point of view.
In this haiku there is a "finally" hidden in my eyes. I have finally finished with the old days. Finally! Without notice!
This change of heart includes a willingness to change something, to keep moving, to be flexible and to develop through your own experiences. And therefore not only "too bad!", But also: Open! On! A new era begins!

Traffic island.
Through holes in a hub cap

An island in ubiquitous (life) traffic. Be it on roads, oceans, in heaven or in everyday life. And there, thrown out of the hustle and bustle of life (traffic), is a “hub cap”, similar to a UFO, which, when approached from the universe, finds its landing site on a [traffic island]; basically condemned to rust and not worth noting. While commuter traffic, holiday traffic, school traffic, sightseeing traffic etc. continue to commute around the island through fine dust, after a certain time on the island new green, new life shifts through the hub cap openings. In the moment's first volatility above, a protected area suddenly becomes established, an island on an island. A biotope, new living space, is created under the hubcap and [through (the) holes in a hubcap].
RM Rilke may be a bit far-fetched here, but a line comes to mind from his wonderful poem "I live my life in growing rings that stretch over things [...]"; the search and hope for further life never ceases.
An “island of the blessed” is already described in Greek mythology, it is known under the name “Elysion”.
Horaz, a Roman poet, demanded that Roman citizens emigrate there in order to escape a never-ending civil war. It is "arva beata [...], divites et insulas": "blissful realms [...] and rich islands".
A disturbing parallel to today, I think of refugees looking for "an island" to live there in a future-oriented way in peace.

What is haiku for me? A short, contemporary poem that, by juxtaposing two pictures or elements, fills a space that is difficult to describe in words, but that touches us deeply and thus goes far beyond what has been said. At best, the author succeeds in introducing something new into the poem. B. or a new perspective on a topic. What is new or touching for the reader naturally depends on the individual wealth of experience and the current life situation. Against this background, the following two moon haiku particularly appealed to me in this selection:

In this haiku I can see two levels. In the first, the current level, several people take a walk in the moonlight in the evening. They have to separate from each other for the rest of the way, and the lyrical ego continues alone to the goal.
On the second level - going beyond what is written - I see the lyrical self in the autumn of her / his life. Close people have left, may have died and can therefore no longer accompany the lyrical self in the last quarter of life. Due to the clever juxtaposition of 'three-quarter moon' and 'rest of the way' it remains unspoken for me that the goal will be reached by a full moon. To equate death with abundance is surprising and comforting at the same time. A successful haiku for me.

After the concert
the echo of the moonlight

What is 'the echo of the moonlight', I ask myself and find this wording to be mysterious and apt, without having an explanation ready immediately. An echo occurs when reflections of a sound wave are delayed so much that you can perceive this sound as a separate hearing event. And what about the moonlight? The moon reflects sunlight. Shouldn't the echo of sunlight be seen in the snow? A physicist could certainly dig deeper here and find more appropriate answers. But since I am not one, my thoughts go on to the snow. Moonlight makes snow shine brightly by itself. So I suspect that the concert experience of the lyrical ego must have been very intense. With the many dark tones, I also like the haiku sonically, and the rhythm in lines two and three gives me an image of leisurely mindful walking. A successful haiku for me.
