We are …

... an association founded in 1988 that brings together committed people from various professions and ages. We deal with various forms of Japanese poetry from haiku to tanka to renku and the increasingly popular haibun and haiga. However, the focus of interest is the haiku, a centuries-old form that is known worldwide today.

We want …

... explore the haiku and transfer its poetic character from Japanese tradition to our culture and living space, establish and cultivate it as an independent poem form in German-language poetry.

We offer …

... contacts, expert advice, events, encounters, competitions, possibilities of publication in the company's quarterly journal, on our website or as part of member anthologies in book form.

Anyone can become a member of the DHG who actively supports this form of poetry and its dissemination or simply wants to be passively brought up to new ideas or views by the articles printed in SOMMERGRAS magazine. Any collaboration - whether factual articles, haiku, haibun, etc. or a critical or praising letter to the editor - is desirable so that the editorial team always has its finger on the pulse.
Membership is supported by the society with the annual fee, normally € 45 (€ 55 abroad), which includes the subscription to the quarterly magazine SOMMERGRAS. The price for the annual subscription to the magazine without membership is also 45 euros and 55 euros for shipping outside of Germany.

A board of directors is elected by the general assembly every two years. The members of the Executive Board perform different tasks, which also include members who are not on the Executive Board.
